China’s Taobao launches home appliance and digital products promotion

China’s largest business to consumer (B2C) online retailer Taobao Mall said on Monday it will spend CNY200 million (USD31.7m) to subsidise manufacturers of home appliances and digital products so that they can pass on the savings to customers.

The promotion will last four months.

Taobao’s B2C website said sales in the first quarter reached CNY8 billion and estimated the figure to nearly double to CNY15b in the second quarter.
