Celebrating the Year of the Tiger with limited edition collections

The Year of the Tiger that will commence on 1st February this year has inspired luxury and lifestyle brands to launch limited edition collections adorned with colorful tiger patterns or shapes. These special and limited editions pay homage to the auspicious season while enabling brands to connect with Asian consumers.

As we wave the Year of the Ox goodbye, we have rounded up some of the 2022 Year of The Tiger collections.

Dior

Dior Men Artistic Director, Kim Jones, and American artist Kenny Scharf collaborated again on a Chinese New Year capsule collection. Their cute, smiling Water Tiger appears as a print on shirts, embroidered onto knitwear or translated onto a patch on denim jackets and other similar apparel. It also appears on accessories, including men’s jewellery and the B27 sneakers. The capsule collection is rendered in vibrant blue, white and auspicious red hues.

Chinese jewelry label, Hefang, unveils its “Adorable Tiger” collection in celebration of the Lunar New Year. The capsule collection features white gold and diamond necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets whose designs are reminiscent of tiger’s teeth, claws, nose, head or stripe.

Swiss luxury fashion house Bally launches a multi-piece capsule, featuring artwork from Chinese artist Jun Cen, that honors the new year with a limited-edition motif, a nod to this year’s water tiger zodiac sign. Cen’s tiger enhances Bally’s sneakers, bags, accessories and ready-to-wear for women and men.

Apple unveils a special-edition AirPods Pro with a custom-designed tiger emoji printed on the wireless charging case. A red tiger emoji is printed on the Air-Pod pro package. Upon purchase, customers can redeem a set of  Chinese zodiac red envelopes.

Davidoff Cigars launched a “Year of the Tiger” limited edition, featuring several accessories such as a cigar leather case and an ashtray to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The highlight of the collection is the Masterpiece Humidor created with Chinese artist Xie Qi and French marquetry artist Rose Saneuil. It is limited to 24 pieces worldwide.

The Year of the Tiger makeup collection from Estée Lauder features a limited edition Powder compact with an embossed tiger, a special Pure Color Envy cheek palette and lipstick. The brand gave a Chinese New Year twist to its signature Advanced Night Repair Synchronised Multi-Recovery Complex and its Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex Synchronised Recover by repackaging them in red and gold containers bearing a tiger.

The Swiss jewelry brand has unveiled a limited edition timepiece featuring two tiger cubs on the dial alongside three gold rosettes, a motif inspired by the grand entryway leading into Harry Winston’s iconic Fifth Avenue Salon and used in its jewelry collection. The two cubs are crafted in 18-carat rose gold, while the stripes are rendered in gold and red beaded mother-of-pearl, their eyes are set with bright diamonds.  Only eight timepieces have been made for this festive occasion.

Italian fashion house Gucci launches “Gucci Tiger” a limited capsule collection, featuring ready-to-wear and accessories. Items include wallets, shoes and t-shirts with images of tigers and nature and the words “Gucci Tiger” in bold letters. The collection was designed by Gucci’s Creative Director, Alessandro Michele and highlights the multifaceted nature of the Gucci universe and the fascination with the beauty of nature.

Luxury footwear and sports brand, Hogan launches its Chinese New Year limited-edition collection, featuring the brand’s Interaction sneakers with a tiger print on the side, a sweatshirt in red colour with a golden tiger head and a women’s Hoodie designed with a red and white contrast patchwork bearing the same print.

Lady M New York launches its Lunar New Year Tiger Gift Set,  a collectible candy set. The package is designed as a red envelope that features gold tigers against a backdrop of plum blossoms, intricate cloud elements, and fans. The set contains an assortment of chocolate and jelly confections from the Lady M Bon Bon collection such as Gianduja Crêpe Biscuit, Vanilla Crêpe Biscuit, Strawberry Jellies, Apricot Jellies, Salted Caramel Orbs, and Sesame Praline Orbs.

Huawei unveiled the 2022 Year of the Tiger limited edition protective cases for its P50 series smartphones in China. The collection includes two designs, one with a tiger face and the other with a tiger pattern. Both phone cases come in bright-red colour with gold patterns. The metal ring designed around the camera module can be used as a device holder when unfolded.

French luxury fashion house, Louis Vuitton, welcomes the Chinese New Year with a limited Precious Tiger collection that boasts accessories, jewelry, scarves and luxury homeware featuring a tiger delicately perched on top of the iconic leather trunk.

British luxury brand Mulberry gave its Alexa bag a roaring twist to celebrate the Year of the Tiger. The Lunar New Year capsule also features Mulberry’s Mini Alexa, Small Darley Satchel  and smaller leather pieces and accessories, including a tiger-print Zipped Credit Card Slip, Tan leather iPhone 12 Cover, Key Charm in the shape of a cheeky tongue-out tiger, and a fetching square silk scarf adorned with pouncing wildcat motif.

Chinese D2C Fragrance Label, To Summer, launches three exclusive Lunar New Year gift boxes. Inspired by the Chinese saying “In me the tiger sniffs the rose”, the set includes a tiger-like scented candle, a bottle of fragrance, red envelopes, and a perfume bag.

British handmade cosmetic brand Lush, launches two exclusive products this year: a “Lucky Tiger Bath Bomb” and  a “Lunar New Year Knot Wrap”. The scented patchouli and Brazilian orange bath bomb is shaped like a tiger head. The “Lunar New Year Knot Wrap” is made from sourced 100 percent organic cotton by artisans in India, and can be reused as the year progresses.

Clinique’s zodiac-themed collection includes a check-pop highlighter with an embossed tiger head, a moisturizing lotion and a dark spot corrector and interrupter in a new-year red with red and gold packaging.
