Acer focuses on China, Brazil

Acer Inc. is poised for growth in China, a market where the Taiwan computer maker has lagged its global rivals, as it looks to emerging economies to help it leapfrog past Hewlett-Packard Co. as the world’s biggest notebook and notebook computer maker by shipments this year or next, its CEO Gianfranco Lanci said on 31 March.

According to Lanci, China, along with Brazil, will be key growth drivers for Acer this year. He predicted that Asian markets, including China, are likely to overtake the combined markets of Europe, the Middle East and Africa in importance this year, pushing the US market into third place.

Lanci expects Acer’s notebook market share in China to hit 10 percent this year from 7 percent now, as an expanded sales operation drives growth. He also predicted that Acer’s market share in Brazil will climb to about 15 percent-20 percent from 12 percent-14 percent now.
