Xu Erjin, General Manager of Shanghai Lujiazui Group, said “Qiantan is the new central business district for Shanghai and its visionary planning integrates business, residential, sports, culture, education, leisure and other high-quality resources. Positioning itself as a world-class central public activity area, Qiantan is undergoing a transformation that will make it more liveable, convenient and international. With Shanghai positioned as China’s key international gateway, Qiantan will become the window through which the city connects to the world – and with its location in the heart of Qiantan, Taikoo Li Qiantan is set to become a future destination for global citizens.”

With a guiding vision of becoming the “Heart of Urban Living” in Shanghai, Taikoo Li Qiantan maintains the essence of Swire Properties’ two existing Taikoo Li developments in the Chinese mainland, which are well-known for their open-plan and lane-driven architectural design. The development also incorporates new concepts, to create a unique lifestyle and wellness experience in the city.

“Taikoo Li Qiantan has inherited the DNA of the Taikoo Li brand. In addition to an open-plan design and a trendsetting and lifestyle-driven ethos, it also incorporates local characteristics from Qiantan,” said Alan Lo, Portfolio General Manager of Taikoo Li Qiantan.

“The concept of wellness has been infused throughout every feature – from the planning and design to the trade-mix curation and arts and cultural elements – to offer an unparalleled experience for visitors. Our vision for Taikoo Li Qiantan is to respond to people’s desire for a high-quality, healthy and sustainable lifestyle while offering a ‘third place’ – a wellness-focused area where people can escape from work and home,” continued Alan.

One major design highlight is a double-deck open space created both on the ground level and on the rooftop. The ground level features an 8,000-sqm- central green axis, spanned by an 80-metre-long scenic bridge from which customers can overlook the scenery of Qiantan Park and the Huangpu River. The rooftop features a 450-metre track with greenery and leisure spaces that connect with the surrounding retail shops.

Taikoo Li Qiantan has also adopted a naturalistic design concept inspired by the elements of wood, stone and water to create soft, flowing architectural forms, with some of the buildings featuring facades made from wood and stone. Natural streams are a highlight of the project, weaving through the entire landscape space, while greenery is heavily featured on each floor. In addition to this unique design concept, the complex also comprises several unique open spaces where visitors can gather and relax, in keeping with its placemaking vision and people-focused approach to design.

Taikoo Li Qiantan was designed by renowned US architecture and planning practice 5+ Design, with the landscape designed by Singapore-based landscape design consultant Tierra. The architectural design won the 2019 MIPIM AR Future Project Award (Shopping Centre Category).
