Gap opens first store in Mexico

US clothing retailer Gap Inc. is expanding into more global markets and has opened its first stand-alone store in Mexico.

Gap-branded merchandise were previously available only in Liverpool Department stores throughout Mexico.

The new store, which is located in the northern suburb of Interlomas just outside of Mexico City, occupies an area of 10,000 square foot store that houses Gap, GapKids and babyGap collections.

The company said it also plans to open stores in Bogota and Medellin in Colombia and in Uruguay within the year.
