Big jump in Thailand’s retail supply

Last year’s fourth quarter saw the largest increase in Thailand’s retail supply since 2005, with 250,000 square metres of new stock entering the market, says the research firm DTZ Thailand. Prominent new supply included the 40,000-square-metre Terminal 21 at the Asok intersection on Sukhumvit Road and CentralPlaza Grand Rama 9.

Despite the severe flooding, average occupancy picked up slightly in central Bangkok to 94.3 percent, up by 0.4 percent year-on-year.

As of 31 Dec., central Bangkok’s retail stock stood at 1.1 million square metres.
