Adore Beauty

Founded in 2000, Adore Beauty is the business-child of Kate Morris. The Australian cosmetics fiend started the online beauty site as a garage business with just $12000 capital. Morris has grown the online seller of makeup, hair and skincare over the past 16 years, to become one of country’s largest online cosmetics businesses, going from 6,000 to 10,000 products in the last 12 months alone.

Adore Beauty is now backed by retail giant Woolworths, which acquired a 25% stake for an undisclosed sum. In April this year, Adore said it plans to enter China, announcing it will sell a selection of cosmetics via the country’s Tmall platform.

The expansion into China is Adore’s first offshore move. Adore Beauty recorded revenues of $15m-16m this year, up to 70% higher than last year.

BNKR

Founded in 2007 by Dean and Melanie Flintoft, BNKR is the South Australian retail division of Australian Fashion Labels – a group, which offers contemporary fast-fashion labels to consumers.

As well as a burgeoning e-commerce platform, BNKR has a bricks-and-mortar store in Adelaide’s Rundle Mall and opened its first U.S. store in Los Angeles back in April 2016.
But BNKR is continuing its online push in 2017 – the store has 150,000 subscribers and it has a strong network of bloggers who also help promote the brands in Australia and overseas.

A key strategy for the group has been to introduce monthly ranges to keep its labels refreshed – Finders, C/MEO Collective, Keepsake, The Fifth, TY-LR and Jaggar Footwear. Meanwhile, watch brand The Fifth sells products online for five days of each month only, in a buy-now-or-miss-out e-tail model.

Australian Fashion Labels group recorded a $49.8 million turnover in 2014-15.
