Landlords offer more than space to retailers in China

As the most alluring consumer market in the world, China tempts thousands of foreign retailers to try to establish a foothold in the country each year. The road to success is not easy though, and many fail.

To secure and retain foreign tenant in such a challenging retail environment, developers of Chinese shopping centres are going beyond simply marketing space to provide an advisory service to their customers.

Retailers entering China for the first time often depend on landlords to help them secure licences and complete procedures to set up for business, says Ada Nip, head of retail at property consultancy DTZ in northern China.
