HK malls pull out all stops to lure World Cup fans

Hong Kong shopping mall operators are offering free hotel rooms, gourmet dinners prepared by Michelin chefs, facial treatments and abalone breakfasts to compete for late-night shoppers during the football World Cup, which kicks off next month.

Sun Hung Kai Properties is spending HKD500,000 (USD64,250) to convert a vacant floor at its flagship apm mall in East Kowloon into a temporary 10,000-square-foot "eight-star presidential suite" for lucky-draw winners to watch matches, which will be screened from 7:30pm through to the early hours of the morning.
