The new 720S Spider was unveiled in Hong Kong for the first time last Friday, the most accomplished convertible history.
The 720S Spider is the latest addition in the Super Series family, serving as the second new model under the ambitious Track25 business plan.
Like all McLaren cars, the new 720S Spider has a carbon fibre structure at its core, in this case a Monocage II-S. The strength, rigidity and light weight of the McLaren Monocage is the foundation for the dynamic excellence for which McLarens are renowned. The design details of the new McLaren Spider mimic the seamless and organic forms introduced in 2017 with the 720S Coupé.
Combined to maximise downforce, minimise drag, enhance powertrain cooling and optimise aerodynamic performance, the shape produces an overall appearance akin to a futuristic sculpture, formed by the air that flows over, under, around and through it. A new, electrically actuated Retractable Hard Top (RHT) is seamlessly integrated into the design, as well as new buttresses. The powerfully innovative 720S Spider delivers in all supercar aspects; and as the lightest vehicle in the series, it offers an unparalleled blend of extreme performance, crafted luxury, driver involvement and daily usability. Priced at HKD 4,800,000, the 720S Spider is a force to be reckoned with on the roads.
The new McLaren Automotive showroom, in partnership with Adamas Motors, officially opened at the Hopewell Centre in Wan Chai last Friday. One of McLaren’s largest flagship showrooms in the Asia-Pacific region, the ultramodern venue reflects McLaren’s corporate identity whilst echoing the brand’s courageous approach to innovation. Known for its limitless supercar customisation, the new McLaren showroom features a range of interactive, intuitive design elements that allow guests to explore and engage with the brand’s visionary supercar concepts first-hand.
Stepping into the 5,000 sq. ft. edgy and futuristic showroom, guests can sense an air of sophistication and minimalism with bright and clean interiors. McLaren’s latest supercar displayed at the Auditorium on the left immediately captures attention, customers can view the vehicle up close to get a taste for speed. Two large screens transmitting a live feed from McLaren’s Technology Centre in Woking, England, provide a glimpse into the perseverance of each engineer that culminates in the creation of each individual vehicle.
Walking towards the back of the showroom is the Configurative Room, an imagination zone where customers can discover a plethora of specification options for their car using an interactive screen. McLaren’s dedicated team will guide buyers through the enhancement process to ensure each car is individually tailored down to every detail, from creating a unique exterior and interior colour scheme, to personalising the upholstery and marquetry.
Customers can build ultra-exclusive limited-edition or one-off model based on their own precise tastes. Evolving photo screens display McLaren’s unparalleled racing history, as well as images of McLaren supercars in Hong Kong; located near the showroom bar, guests can relax and appreciate their impressive surroundings and learn about McLaren’s racing heritage.
An in-store boutique allows visitors to further immerse themselves in the McLaren legacy. In addition to an extensive range of McLaren-branded merchandise, the boutique is also the first location in Hong Kong to showcase the new capsule collection in collaboration with Belstaff. The driver-inspired clothing range of finely designed leather and lightweight jackets by the two British icons includes pieces for both women and men, adding a hint of sophistication to any outfit while aligning with McLaren’s philosophy of performance-oriented authenticity and style.
“I am thrilled to be in Hong Kong in celebration of two milestones: the first public debut of the new McLaren 720S Spider and the official unveiling of our new showroom in Hong Kong,” said George Biggs, Managing Director of Asia Pacific and China, McLaren Automotive Asia Ltd. “Hong Kong has been instrumental in the development of McLaren in Asia and retail sales have more than doubled from 2017 to 2018 with a stellar growth of 115%. I am heartened to learn of the growing McLaren community in Hong Kong and with the opening of the new McLaren showroom, I believe the new modern environment and the state-of-the-art facility will provide a perfect place for owners to share their love for driving.”
