Lenovo lures Chinese gamers with new units

To gain market share in China, computer maker Lenovo Group has announced plans to release computers for gamers in the mainland.

The plan involves launching gaming-conducive units, including desktops and laptops, in the next few months. Lenovo vice president Liu Jie said the goal is to tap the Chinese gaming community, estimated at 100 million by the end of 2009.

Dell had a head start after it released high end gaming laptop Alianware M17 earlier this year.

Global intelligence firm IDC said the financial crunch has led to the decline in global PC shipments by 7 percent during the first quarter of 2009. This pushed computer companies to innovate their marketing strategies to offset the effects of the crisis.
