Japan lowers income bar for Chinese on visas

The Japanese government will relax income conditions for granting visas to individual Chinese tourists beginning 1 July in an attempt to boost visitor numbers, Japanese officials said on Monday.

Under the plan, Japan will begin issuing individual tourist visas to Chinese who possess "gold" credit cards, which are usually given to those who earn at least CNY60,000 (USD8,790) a year and meet other conditions, the officials said, adding the government will comprehensively judge applicants’ income and employment status.
