Malaysia’s furniture exports boom

MALAYSIA’s furniture exports could expand by 15 percent to match 2008’s record high of MYR8.7 billion (USD2.88b), as manufacturers take in more orders from emerging markets.

"Based on the orders secured at the furniture fairs this week, we see more orders from emerging markets like northern Africa and India," said Malaysian Furniture Promotion Council chairperson Datuk Christine Tibok Vanhouten.

Dynamic Furniture Industries (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Khoo Yeow Chong attested that one of his clients from Algeria, who was very attracted to the leather sofa collection on display, placed a USD10,000 (MYR30,100) cash deposit for his orders in the next three months.
