Australia’s Woolworths buys 13 Tasmanian hardware units

Woolworths Ltd has acquired woodchipper Gunns Ltd’s hardware chain in the Australian state of Tasmania for AUD40 million (USD32.5 million) as the supermarket giant gears up to take on another Australian hardware chain, Bunnings, in the multi-billion-dollar home handyman market.

Woolworths on Monday said it would pay Gunns AUD40m (USD32.5m) to acquire five stores, one timber joinery centre, a truss manufacturing plant and a support office.
