Canon to freeze development of home-use SED TVs

Japan’s Canon said on Tuesday it will freeze plans to develop home-use flat panel TVs based on surface-conduction electron-emitter display (SED) technology due to difficulty in bringing down production costs.

The digital-camera and office-equipment maker began developing the high-definition TVs a decade ago but found it hard to secure a profit because of sharp drops in LCD TV prices, a company spokesperson said.
