Apple Japan to replace iPod nanos for overheating

Apple Japan has offered to replace any first-generation iPod nano music players in the event of overheating, after reports of electrical fires led to criticism by the Japanese government.

Apple confirmed "very rare cases of overheating" in batteries of iPod nanos sold between September 2005 and December 2006, which the company had traced to a particular battery supplier, adding that other nano models had no such problems. The overheating battery would often distort the shape of the device or make it unusable, the company said on its Japanese website.
