VW Q1 sales up by a quarter, still sees tough year

Europe’s top carmaker, Volkswagen AG, expects 2010 to be a tough year despite signs of market improvement but says it remains optimistic it will develop better than the market.

The Germany-based company said on Friday demand for its core VW brand rose 27 percent in the first three months of this year. Group vehicle sales were up 24.6 percent in that period.
