Indian automaker Mahindra bets big on the US

Mahindra & Mahindra believes its global vehicle volume sales could contribute to 20 percent of total business by 2012. This marks a near three-fold jump from current levels, said Pravin Shah, chief executive of International Operations at Mahindra.

Two years ago, global numbers accounted for barely 5 percent of overall sales, while in 2008-09 they are expected to close a bit higher at around 7 percent. "We are entering the US [market] this year, which is the world’s largest market for sport utility vehicles [SUV] and pickups. It is going to change M&M’s international business volumes and take the brand to a different level in the SUV and pickups segment," says Shah.
