Hyundai to introduce SUV to India this year

Korean automobile major Hyundai Motor India Ltd will introduce its popular sports utility vehicle  (SUV), the "Santa Fe", in the Indian market as a completely built unit this year, a company official said on 19 April.

"We will bring the Santa Fe SUV to India this year. It will be a completely built unit. But after two to three years we may consider manufacturing it as a completely knocked down unit," says Hyundai’s managing director Hang-Woo Park.

On plans to introduce an 800cc small car, he said it is in the development stage and is planned to launch in India by 2011. The automaker has invested close to INR800 crore (INR8 billion, USD179 million) on producing the car, which would be positioned below the Hyundai Santro.
