Foreign brands gain in Indian two-wheeler market

In India, demand for foreign branded bikes and scooters surged to an all-time high in 2011-12. One in every five bike buyers bought a motorcycle made for a foreign brand. According to data provided by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam), the combined share of Indian heavyweights like Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motors hit a new low of 78 percent, compared to 86 percent in 2006-07.
