Time to act on Australian wine glut

Leading Australian wine industry figure John Casella is throwing his weight behind calls for thousands of hectares of Australia’s vineyards to be ripped out to end the crisis facing the sector.

A recent wine industry report said Australia was producing 20 million to 40 million more cases a year than it was selling. This equates to 270,000 to 500,000 tonnes of grapes, or 20,000 to 40,000 hectares of surplus vines.
