Gudetama, a lazy and grumpy Sanrio character fashioned after a runny egg, will land on Singapore shores in November in the form of a Gudetama-themed cafe.

Fans of the egg character were excited when news of the opening was confirmed in mid-October by an Instagram account for the cafe being set up and popular local food bloggers sharing the news.

The Sanrio character has been a culinary hit in Hong Kong, featuring in dim sum and Japanese curry dishes and even in a McDonald’s meal set.

There is also a Gudetama Cafe in HEP Five shopping mall in Osaka, Japan.

Local food blogger Shirley Wong, also known as Little Miss Bento, has been enlisted by the Singapore Gudetama Cafe to assist with the food styling and co-creating the menu.

She shared this on her Facebook page, calling Gudetama her favourite character. She had previously shared on her blog her Gudetama sushi and bento creations.

The cafe will be located at level one of Suntec City Mall.

Character-themed cafes such as the Pokemon cafe and Hello Kitty café have been a huge hit with Singaporeans this year, and the Gudetama outlet seems set to be a cracking hit.
