Gucci’s latest collaborations

The luxury brand Gucci is known for its many exciting collaborations such as the Doraemon collection and The North Face collection.

This time is no exception. The Italian luxury fashion house joined hands with K-Pop star KAI, a member of the K-Pop supergroup EXO, on a special capsule collection.

It was not the K-Pop star’s first time to work with the fashion house. KAI was starred for the Spring Summer 2020 Gucci Eyewear campaign and is Gucci’s global ambassador since 2019, but this collaboration is special in that the collection is named under KAI and is also Gucci’s first exclusive collaboration with a Korean celebrity.

Inspired by KAI’s favourite teddy bear, Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele designed the collection around a blue bow tied teddy bear.

Launched on 17th April, the collection features a selection of men’s and women’s ready-to-wear and accessories with a decorative motif of the teddy bear that is mixed with other Gucci House patterns and motifs.

To celebrate the friendship between humans and their fluffy, furry companions, the campaign of the collection was shot by South Korean photographer Min Hynwoo and film director Woogie Kim as KAI walks down the streets of Seoul with his teddy bear.

In addition to its collaboration with the K-Pop star, one of the hottest topics lately is the possible collaboration between Gucci and the luxury house Balenciaga.

No confirmation was made until Gucci debuted its first collection of the year called Aria on 15th April, marking its 100th anniversary. It was revealed that the rumours of the two Kering-helmed brands joining forces were true.

However, according to Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele, the joint effort is not a “collaboration”, but a “hacking lab” where Michele “pilfered” Creative Director Demna Gvasalia’s Balenciaga and combined with Gucci signatures, as clarified on Gucci’s official Instagram.
