Maggio, 52, was most recently the CEO of Moschino, a position the luxury fashion executive held for just over three years until departing from the post at the Aeffe-owned Moschino in September.
Prior to Moschino, Maggio has also worked at Gucci and Bottega Veneta, where he gained international experience on both the commercial side and marketing, in regions such as Greater China and Southeast Asia.
Stella McCartney, majority-owned by LVMH, revealed earlier in the year that its former CEO Frederick Lukoff had left the company in June.
Lukuff is now CEO of Amsterdam-based fashion brand Scotch & Soda.
“Gabriele joins Stella McCartney at an incredibly exciting moment as the brand embarks on the next chapter of our journey,” said Stella McCartney, in an interview with WWD.
“As a brand, we continue to drive the most relevant agenda in fashion, and with Gabriele joining the team we can all look forward to realizing the brand’s enormous potential,” continued Stella McCartney.
Maggio will be stationed at Stella McCartney’s head office in London. He will work alongside the namesake brand’s founder and designer, Stella McCartney, and the rest of the brand’s leadership team.
One of luxury fashion’s more sustainability-focused labels, Stella McCartney continues to pioneer a new era of business; following the announcement in July that French luxury goods group LVMH was a its new financial backer.
Prior to LVMH, luxury rival Kering Group had backed Stella McCartney for some 17 years, before the duo cut ties around 18 months ago.
