Amazon Kindles Its China Strategy With New Chief

Amazon has appointed Amazon global vice president and general manager of Kindle China Zhang Wenyi as new president for Amazon China.

In this new role, Zhang will take over the e-commerce business of Amazon China and continue to lead the Kindle business in China. Meanwhile, Amazon China’s current president Doug Gurr will take the role of Amazon U.K. president.

Zhang graduated from University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree in June 1993. She joined Amazon as global vice president in May 2013. Before joining Amazon, Zhang worked for Intel and held positions related to strategy and branding.

Over the past three years, Zhang was in charge of the strategy and development of Amazon’s Kindle in China and introduced the full Kindle product lines into this marketplace. At present, Kindle’s sales in China rank second in the world, following the U.S.
