What is the China Brand Day?

The China Brand Day was established in 2017 with the objective of promoting Chinese brands, and since then it occurs on 10th May.

The 2021’s edition was held at the Shanghai Exhibition Center from 10th to 12th May.

Over time, the Party Central Committee and the State Council have attached great importance to brand development and in 2014, President Xi Jinping proposed to “promote the transformation from Made in China to Created in China, from China Speed to China Quality, and from Chinese Product to Chinese Brand”; Premier Li Keqiang has repeatedly emphasised the creation of famous Chinese indigenous brands in the government work report.

In 2016, the State Council issued the Opinion on China to improve product brands for structural upgrades. In 2017, the State Council approved the establishment of “China Brand Day” on 10th May every year.

2021’s edition – “Focusing on Dual Circulation, Leading New Consumption”

The three-day event, held both online and offline this year, attracted more than 600 domestic enterprises from at least 50 delegations, including middle and small-sized innovative ones.

The overarching theme of the event was “China Brand, World Sharing” and the theme for the full year was “Focusing on Dual Circulation, Leading New Consumption”.

A series of activities were organised to further consolidate social consensus on brand development, and truly empower brand building to lead high-quality economic development. These activities were aimed at promoting the new achievements of China’s domestic brands and contribute to the forming of a massive domestic market, the National Development and Reform Commission said.

Premier Li Keqiang has called on the country to focus on the needs of the market, especially those of consumers, and to work on innovation and pursue excellence as its businesses are committed to building their brands.

Although Chinese brands have been affected by the pandemic, they have continued their brand building investment to develop their business overseas. Meanwhile, top Chinese brands have seen continued growth in terms of brand awareness in developed markets also, according to the Top 50 Kantar BrandZ Chinese Global Brand Builders 2021 ranking report issued by Google and Kantar in 2021. This was due to the highly personalized experience and higher quality products that has been the focus for the past few years.

Huang Xianqiong, director of Quality Department from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, also stressed the role of digital economy in promoting Chinese brands. “The digital economy can meet and create consumer demand, and it will give birth to a large number of new products, new services and new business formats, bringing high production efficiency and manufacturing capabilities,” Huang said, as reported by CGTN.
