Located in Phoenix Marketcity Mall in Kurla, a rapidly-growing suburb in eastern Mumbai that combines bustling businesses, exciting entertainment options, and a vibrant youth culture, the new Uniqlo Mumbai store will serve customers “a new shopping experience” that offers the brand’s full range of men’s and women’s apparel, developed under the brand’s ‘LifeWear’ design concept.

Uniqlo Phoenix Marketcity will be the 11th brick-and-mortar store from the Tokyo-based brand in India since launching in there in 2019.

To date, all Uniqlo stores in India have been located in the northern region of the country centered around New Delhi.

Uniqlo said its first store in Mumbai represents “a significant step in the company’s global expansion,” bringing Uniqlo to most populous city in the world’s fastest-growing major economy.

“We are delighted to be launching in Mumbai this fall,” said Tomohiko Sei, chief executive officer, Uniqlo India.

“October will also mark the anniversary of our four-year journey in India, and this new milestone highlights our strong, ongoing commitment to India. Until now, our customers in Mumbai have been using our e-commerce channel to shop for their LifeWear essentials, and we now look forward to welcoming them in person to our first Mumbai store.”

Uniqlo began with its first store in Hiroshima in 1984, before opening its first international store in London store in 2001. Today, there are more than 2,400 Uniqlo stores located across the world, with the majority located outside Japan.

In India, the brand boasts four New Delhi stores, two Haryana stores, two Punjab stores, and two Uttar Pradesh stores.
