F&B conglomerate Minor International has entered into a partnership with Investment Group (VI) to launch the breakfast, brunch and lunch café in the Southeast Asian market.

With the tie-up, Minor said that it plans to take the Australian chain mass-scale, opening 100 more stores in the next five years.

It plans to open 20 locations in 2019.

“This is a great step forward for The Coffee Club as it makes its first entry into Vietnam”, said Paul Kenny, CEO of Minor Food.

“With the flourishing coffee market and favourable macro trend, we are very optimistic about the opportunity to strengthen our presence in the country and grow The Coffee Club brand nationwide.”

Coffee Club, which sells restaurant-style food and coffee, among other sweets, snacks and drinks, first arrived in Vietnam in 1995, inside a Hai Pong hotel.

Founded in 1989, the Brisbane-based Coffee Club boasts some 400 locations globally within Australia and abroad in markets such as New Zealand, Maldives, Thailand, Indonesia and the Middle East.

Minor International, a hospitality specialist, currently operates 83 restaurants across its three brands The Pizza Company, Thai Express and Swensen’s.

Following the Coffee Club deal, Minor said it is also looking for opportunities to launch other restaurant brands into Vietnam at a later stage.

Vietnam Investments Group took over the franchisee rights of Pizza Company and Swensen’s in 2015.

The Coffee Club addition takes its restaurant brand count to more than 10.

“The Coffee Club offers a distinctive restaurant experience with great selections of food and beverages menus, excellent coffee and a welcoming relaxed atmosphere enriching the contemporary lifestyles of the Vietnamese consumers,” said David Do, VI Group MD.
