Thailand’s consumer confidence gains, but inflation looms

Thailand’s Consumer Confidence Index in April rose for the fifth month in a row, but the public is still concerned about the cost of living, notes a University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce report.

The index stood at 77.6 points – the highest in seven months – compared with 76.6 in March. The index on overall economy was at 67.5 points, up from 66.5 in March, while the index on job opportunity was at 68.2 points, up from 67.4. The index on future income was at 97.1 points, up from 95.9. An index below 100 indicates consumers are still worried.

Thanavath Phonvichai, an economist at the university, said businesses have continued to recover after the floods.
