World Bank and IMF oppose imposition by Philippines government of EVAT

The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund were against the imposition by the Philippines’ government of the expanded value added tax (EVAT) on basic commodities, and United Opposition vice-presidential candidate Jejomar C Binay supports this objection. “I cannot understand how anyone can defend the EVAT when it has become the biggest burden on the poor,” says Binay.
