RIMOWA debuts ‘The Art of Engineering Since 1898’ Exhibition in Shanghai

Rimowa has debuted ‘The Art of Engineering Since 1898’ exhibition in Shanghai. Opening October 24 with a special event, which saw renowned actor and singer Timmy Xu, and actress Cecilia Boey in attendance, alongside members of the press and friends of the brand, the exhibition opened with a celebration featuring a specially engraved personalization service during the evening.

Once inside, the exhibition saw guests travel through the German brand’s history as they made their way through the space, starting from its founding in 1898 to the present. Archival pieces dating back to 1947 were also on display.

With innovation as a fundamental tenant at the luggage maker, the latest modern pieces developed also received their own dedicated space. With an interactive twist, the products made their way through a conveyor belt, going on to pass through an x-ray machine to reveal various objects inside.

In a nod to the expert engineers and craftsmanship that bring Rimowa products to life, the exhibition also put a focus on the production process, highlighting each stage of the creation of the aluminium collection. From the way raw aluminium rolls are transformed to cut-outs and the formation of Rimowa’s signature grooves; to the suitcase’s final assembly into shape, the production process of each Rimowa piece was showcased in a video. In another corner, visitors could also view each element of Rimowa suitcases disassembled, revealing the construction process.
