Sydney’s “Mayfair” not so fair

It could be one of the most prestigious retail streets in Sydney – "the Mayfair or Park Lane on the Monopoly board", as a former tenant, Ray Price, put it.

The shops lining Ennis Road in the city’s Kirribilli suburb are built deep into the void beneath the northern approach to the Harbour Bridge, with attractive 1930s facades and, looking south, a view of the Opera House.

However, the site has fallen into disrepair and at least three retailers have moved out, with more set to follow, because of years of bureaucratic delay over a much-needed redevelopment.
