MTR Malls announced this month the soft opening date of its The Wai shopping precinct on July 22 in Hong Kong, ahead of its official opening in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Situated atop Sha Tin’s Tai Wai station, The Wai will span 650,000 square feet and is set to have four retail floors, playing home to some 150 merchants.
For convenience, the mall will have multiple entrances and newly constructed pedestrian footbridges that connect to the station, along with public transport interchanges connecting residential estates.
Being above the Tai Wai station, the mall is connected to two railway lines — Tuen Ma and East Rail lines — as well as major tunnels, providing access to Hong Kong, Kowloon, and New Territories.
The Wai is also connected to the cycle track network, linking East to West in the New Territories, and will house Hong Kong’s largest indoor bicycle parking lot, measuring 13,000 square feet with 300 bicycle parking spaces.
The Wai also boasts some 50,000 square feet of green spaces throughout its floors, and a 5,000-square-feet main atrium on the second floor, which will play host to performances and exhibitions.
MTR Mall’s parent company, MTR Corporation, first made the announcement about the upcoming The Wai mall back in May 2021. In 2022, MTR Corporation clocked a 1.3 percent uptick in revenues to HKD 47.8 billion (USD 6.1 billion), compared to 2021.
