Mitsui Fudosan to develop flagship retail property in Kaohsiung, Taiwan

Tokyo-headquartered real estate firm Mitsui Fudosan has begun construction on a new regional shopping centre, tentatively named LaLaport Kaohsiung, scheduled for opening in 2026 in southern Taiwan’s largest city.

LaLaport Kaohsiung will be Mitsui Fudosan’s sixth retail facility in Taiwan and is being positioned as its flagship property in the country’s southern region.

Located five kilometres from central Kaohsiung, the facility will comprise a low-rise building on a site of 460,000 square feet to accommodate approximately 280 stores for fashion brands from Taiwan and overseas, Japanese retailers, food courts, and supermarkets.

Mitsui Fudosan is also developing Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Nangang, scheduled to open in Taipei in 2024 following the opening of Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Taichung, which opened in May 2023.

Outside of Taiwan, the group is expanding its outlet mall business in multiple Asian markets including Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur.
