Located in Singapore’s ION Orchard mall, the new Marimekko Singapore location boasts both a retail store and a café concept, and is opening in partnership with local distributor Tanachira.

Asia is “the most important” market for Marimekko’s growth, according to the company, with Singapore noted as a key city in Southeast Asia for the brand.

“Our inspiring stores and creative retail concepts have expanded the Marimekko phenomenon in our key markets, especially in Asia,” said Natacha Defrance, Marimekko senior vice president of sales, region east.

“One of the fastest growing markets for us in Asia has been Thailand. We are very happy that our excellent collaboration in scaling up Marimekko’s brand together with Tanachira, our partner in Thailand, will now extend to Singapore.”

The Singapore physical retail debut also coincides with the Stockholm-based brand’s dedicated e-commerce store in the Singapore market.

Looking ahead, Marimekko said it will focus on scaling its business and growth especially in international markets, with the Asia-Pacific region serving as Marimekko’s second largest market.

The growing market, strong brand fit and proven track record with the loose franchise partnership model provide a good foundation for the company to accelerate omnichannel growth in Asia, said Marimekko.

Most recently, Marimekko announced last month plans to open retail stores in both Vietnam and Malaysia, as part of a new partnership with Jaspal Group.
