Shinsegae Duty Free partners with China’s Industrial Bank

Shinsegae DF Inc., duty-free store operating unit of South Korea’s retail conglomerate Shinsegae Group, has launched credit cards for people who are in partnership with China’s Industrial Bank Co. to draw more big spenders.

The grade four Discover Shinsegae plastics is the first type launched in China to provide various shopping and travel perks for Chinese travelers in Korea, the company said.

Cardholders of two platinum S- and A-grade plastics are offered black memberships that grant them a maximum of 20 percent discount at all Shinsegae Duty Free outlets and free access to Shinsegae’s Black VIP Lounge at Myeongdong and Gangnam locations.

Regardless of the grade, all cardholders are also given Shinsegae VIP memberships and other various perks and discount options for E-Mart and other Shinsegae Group units.

Industrial Bank is one of the leading commercial lenders in China with 2,032 branches across the country. The bank has issued a total of 4,271 credit cards last year.

Shinsegae DF expects the latest partnership with Industrial Bank to help attract more Chinese customers and boost its sales.

It has been putting out efforts to raise its presence in China by expanding partnership with local companies like online travel agency Ctrip, messaging and social media app WeChat and card issuer UnionPay.
