FamilyMart to acquire ampm

Leading Japanese convenience-store operator FamilyMart has announced it will acquire the Japanese arm of US convenience-store chain ampm.

According to a statement on FamilyMart’s website, the acquisition will enable the company "not only [to] strengthen its already well-established franchise store platform in Tokyo city district, but [also to] benefit from improvements in operational efficiency through the integration of purchasing, logistics operations, IT infrastructure and other administrative operations."

A merging of the brands is planned for spring 2010.
