As part of the Chinese New Year celebration on January 22, Barbie will release a second limited-edition doll designed with Chinese fashion designer, Guo Pei.
In her couture and wedding creations, Guo is known to reference traditional Qing Dynasty court dress.
This doll features a cute bob cut and is dressed in a coordinating mid-sleeved blue satin top and skirt embroidered with auspicious motifs like dragons and clouds.
Currently available in China and around the world, the limited-edition model is now on the shelves of Barbie’s online store.
It is Guo’s third release with Barbie. The former was an updated version of Rihanna’s giant yellow dress from the 2015 Met Gala, while the latter was a red outfit embroidered with golden phoenixes for Chinese New Year.
The Barbie doll, manufactured by Mattel, has collaborated with brands like Moschino, Vera Wang, Karl Lagerfeld, and Diane von Furstenberg for many years. A limited-edition collection of 70 pieces was recently created by Balmain and Barbie.
Barbiecore style is poised to continue its viral status through 2023 with Greta Gerwig’s upcoming ‘Barbie’ movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling hitting theatres on July 21.
