Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) passenger traffic climbed by +1.4% year-on-year in May to 5.8 million. The growth was mainly driven by a +4% rise in travel by Hong Kong residents. Traffic to and from Southeast Asia and Japan recorded the most significant increases by region.

Airport Authority Hong Kong General Manager, Market and Connectivity Development Henry Ma said: “We are pleased that HKIA’s extensive flight network continues to grow. HK Express will introduce direct thrice-weekly passenger service to Takamatsu, Japan in July, offering more choices and greater convenience to travellers during the summer holidays.”

During the first five months of 2016, HKIA handled 29.4 million passengers, an increase of +5.0% compared to the same period last year.

On a rolling 12-month basis, HKIA handled 69.9 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of +6.3%.
