Commercial properties in second- and third-tier cities on the mainland are expected to face a challenging period over the next three years as new supply is released to the market.
Such cities, which include large metropolitan centres outside of first-tier Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Shenzhen, have seen intense speculative development of commercial properties in recent years as builders rushed to capitalise on the country’s economic boom. Many of those projects are coming online now – just as growth slows down.
