Malina Ngai named group CEO at AS Watson

Global beauty and health retailer AS Watson has named Malina Ngai as group CEO, effective from May 1, 2024.

Ngai currently serves as the group chief operating officer of AS Watson and chief executive officer of AS Watson (Asia & Europe).

With over 16,400 stores across 28 markets, AS Watson Group employs 130,000 employees worldwide. The company recorded a revenue of USD23 billion in fiscal year 2023.

Dominic Lai, group co-managing director of CK Hutchison and group managing director of AS Watson, commented: “After leading the AS Watson Group for a rewarding 17 years, I believe it is the right time to pass on the baton. Malina has played a vital role in driving AS Watson’s successful digital transformation, implementing the O+O (Offline plus Online) business model, and fostering positive cultural change over the past decade.”

“As the group CEO of AS Watson, Malina will be fully in charge of defining our vision, leading the team  to formulate strategies to meet our strategic objectives of putting customers first and continuing the  growth journey of our global portfolio,” continued Lai.

Lai, meanwhile, assumes the position of chairman of AS Watson Group.

Ngai’s journey within CK Hutchison and AS Watson spans 24 years, from corporate communications to international management positions in areas such as international buying, technology development, sales operations, marketing, big data, and sustainability.  In 2001, Ngai was transferred to AS Watson, where she assumed various leadership roles. In 2013, she took on the role of group chief operating officer and became CEO of AS Watson (Asia & Europe) in 2019.
