Daniel Lee will replace Riccardo Tisci, who will step down days after showcasing his spring 2023 collection. On October 3rd, Lee will officially join Burberry as the brand’s Creative Director at its London headquarters, and will report to Jonathan Akeroyd, the company’s new Chief Executive Officer.
Daniel is an award-winning designer from Bradford, England, hailed by Burberry as “one of the most exciting British creative talents of his generation.”
Prior to joining Celine in 2012, Lee worked at Maison Margiela, Balenciaga and Donna Karan as director of ready-to-wear design and served as Bottega Veneta’s Creative Director from 2018 to 2021, reinvigorating the Italian luxury brand. As a result of Lee’s efforts, Bottega Veneta has become a hot ticket and has become a trendsetting label, with a youthful spirit infused into the collections. Pouch bags and cassette bags, as well as Lido sandals, were among his top-selling accessories.
According to Burberry, Lee will be responsible for overseeing all of the company’s collections. In February 2023, he will present his debut runway collection at London Fashion Week.
“Daniel is an exceptional talent with a unique understanding of today’s luxury consumer and a strong record of commercial success, and his appointment reinforces the ambitions we have for Burberry. I am excited about working closely with him and I am confident he will have the impact we are aiming for in this next phase, supported by our talented and experienced teams,” Akeroyd said.
Lee stated that together with Burberry’s teams “we will write the exciting next chapter for this legendary British luxury brand”, taking on the legacy of Tisci who leaves the company two days after showing his spring 2023 collection in London.
In mid-November, Akeroyd will lay out his full strategy for the brand. Since joining the brand earlier this year, Lee has made his first major hire.
Tisci, who will be leaving the company later this week after almost five years in the role, was honored on Wednesday as Burberry credited him with spearheading the company’s creative transformation.

“I strived to continue a legacy of innovation, and consistently championed for creativity and diversity, in order to always keep Burberry moving forward. I want to thank my teams, past and present, and the army of collaborators and friends who helped me write a chapter that I hope will stay in Burberry’s future for years to come” Tisci said.
