Kuala Lumpur welcomed on November 30 a new lifestyle and retail destination, The Exchange TRX, a development located within the TRX lifestyle quarter that is envisioned to bring best-in-class placemaking and sustainability standards to Malaysia.
The Exchange TRX, which spans a retail, dining and entertainment component in addition to residences, a public park, and a Kimpton hotel operated by InterContinental Hotels (IHG), is a collaborative development between Lendlease, a real estate group based in Australia, and TRX City Sdn Bhd, master developer of the Tun Razak Exchange.
A new shopping haven
Covering 1.3 million square feet with over 400 stores at opening, The Exchange TRX is set to redefine Kuala Lumpur’s retail landscape, introducing multiple international and new-to-market brands including Hoka, Shake Shack, Bacha Coffee, Venchi, and Escentials, a niche luxury fragrance concept store that carries Penhaligon’s, Santa Maria Novella, Matiere Premiere, and Acqua di Parma.
Debuting in Malaysia through The Exchange TRX are Gentle Monster, Alo Yoga, and Molton Brown, among others, alongside flagship stores by luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Gucci.
In order to provide customers with a seamless shopping experience, several retailers will integrate e-commerce platforms with their physical stores, offering options like click-and-collect, same-day delivery, and in-store digital experiences.
The Exchange TRX also celebrates a diverse range of local and international cuisine with unique dining outlets across five dining precincts.
A green oasis within Kuala Lumpur
“Our ambition for The Exchange TRX is really to create a truly exceptional and transformative space that not only sets new standards in the retail industry but also a landmark that represents the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant community and Malaysians’ exemplary service and hospitality,” says Mitch Wilson, project director of The Exchange TRX and head of retail at Lendlease Malaysia.
Beyond being a conventional retail destination, The Exchange TRX is planned as a vibrant social hub in Kuala Lumpur, featuring TRX City Park, a sprawling, 10-acre rooftop park to activate public engagement. The park marks the city’s first major green development in two decades and offers an alternative venue for social activities such as festivals, concerts, international exhibitions, and more.
As a hyper-connected hub of urban and cultural activity, The Exchange TRX takes advantage of Tun Razak Exchange’s excellent vehicular and pedestrian access. It is conveniently adjoined with the largest and only MRT interchange station, Tun Razak Exchange MRT Station. The financial district offers seamless connectivity to a network of highways such as MEX and SPE, providing convenient access to key destinations in the Klang Valley, including the option to bypass surface road traffic through the SMART Tunnel.
Within the precinct, The Exchange TRX’s pedestrian network of walkways ensures walkability and accessibility throughout the development, connecting the park, retail, residences, hotel, and office spaces. TRX is linked to Bukit Bintang and KLCC via a pedestrian walkway, extending Kuala Lumpur’s renowned shopping belt.
“As with all Lendlease developments, our goal is to create world-class, sustainable, and community-focused destinations that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of consumers, enriches the local culture, and makes a significant and positive impact on the country’s retail and economic landscape. We want The Exchange TRX to be known for having enhanced the community’s quality of life and contributed to the city and country’s growth and identity,” Wilson says.
