Emart24 opens first Singapore store

Korean convenience store Emart24 opened on December 23 its first location in Singapore.

Located in the Jurong Point shopping centre, west of Singapore, with second store opening on December 24 in Nex Mall, a shopping mall in the city’s northeastern region.

seats are available for customers who want to dine in, with a space that also consists of a self-service corner filled with microwaves, ramyeon-cooking machines, and coffee machines.

According to the company, Emart24 comes to Singapore via a joint venture company called Emart24 Singapore Pte. Ltd., which will operate Emart24 convenience stores through a master franchise agreement.

Singapore-based food and beverage giant Fei Siong Group is also one of the investors in the joint venture, according to local media reports.

Set out like a typical convenience supermarket, the chain hosts rows of Emart24 exclusive items alongside household Korean brands for locals to purchase.

The two stores will focus on Korean-style fast foods and ready-to-eat meals, such as tteokbokki and gimbab, seaweed rice rolls with vegetables.

Apart from the cold menu items, there are also hot menu items available including fried Chicken available in honey soy or yangnyeom.

The retailer said it plans to add up to 300 stores over the next five years.

Emart24’s Singapore debut is the Korean retailer’s second international market entry. It comes after it opened its first convenience store in Malaysia in June last year.

Singapore retail sales rebounded 16.8 percent in September, as travellers began to return to the city state and Covid concerns eased, the Department of Statistics (DOS) of Singapore announced.

That was backed in October when retail sales grew by 10.4 percent year-on-year.
