bebe stores sales down 12.5 percent

bebe stores, inc. today reported retail sales of USD106.8 million for the fiscal quarter ended April 3, 2010, a decrease of 12.5 percent compared to sales of USD122.0 million for the fiscal quarter ended April 4, 2009. Comparable store sales for the fiscal quarter ended April 3, 2010 decreased 11.2 percent compared to a decrease of 23.5 percent in the prior year. Beginning in November fiscal 2010 comparable store sales exclude the 52 PH8 stores as of the end of the third quarter due to the conversion of BEBE SPORT stores to PH8 stores.

Retail sales for the year-to-date period ended April 3, 2010 were USD362.5 million compared to USD455.6 million for the year-to-date period ended April 4, 2009 a decrease of 20.4 percent. Comparable store sales for the year-to-date period ending April 3, 2010 decreased 20.8 percent compared to a decrease of 18.2 percent for the year-to-date period ending April 4, 2009.

As of April 3, 2010, average finished goods inventory per square foot was approximately 5.4 percent lower as compared to the prior year.
