Australia a nation of coffee drinkers

Australia is a nation of coffee drinkers, according to analysis that shows an expanding cafe culture and trailing tea sales.

Australians are forecast to spend AUD773.5 million (USD703.6 million) on coffee beans and instant coffee for brewing at home this year. This is compared to AUD452.6 million (USD411.7 million) spent on tea, according to research released last week by Datamonitor.

Coffee sales – which do not include spending on takeaway coffees or coffees consumed in cafes – were forecast to hit almost AUD800 million (USD727.7 million) in 2013.
