Apple finally rolled out its long-awaited iTunes online store in Singapore on Wednesday but the availability of R21 movie titles for sale and rent – albeit for a short time – also caused a stir.
Pay-TV and video retailers here are currently not allowed to screen or sell R21 titles.
Consumers like designer Georgia Tan, 47, managed to buy a copy of The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo, rated R21 here, on Wednesday morning but by 3pm, all R21 titles had been removed. It is not known if the withdrawal of R21 titles is a permanent move. The Straits Times understands that Apple did not consult the Media Development Authority (MDA) on the rollout of iTunes.
