After Google, Dell mulls shifting China operations

Just a day after Google, the world’s largest search engine company, closed down its Chinese search engine, the world’s largest PC manufacturer Dell has hinted towards moving its manufacturing base away from China, possibly to India. Dell buys equipment and parts worth USD25 billion from China.

Dell founder & CEO Michael Dell met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on 23 March. Singh said Dell informed him that the company is buying equipment and parts worth USD25 billion from China, a release stated. "They would like to shift to safer environment with climate conducive to enterprise with security of legal system," he said. Singh has also directed the Planning Commission to work towards the development of computer hardware industry in India.
