240,000 hotel rooms in Asia-Pacific pipeline for January 2010

Hotel-market research firms STR (Smith Travel Research) and STR Global have released their January 2010 lists of hotel developments in the pipeline for the Asia-Pacific, Caribbean and Mexico, Central and South America, Europe, and Middle East/Africa regions.

The Asia-Pacific list includes 948 hotels comprising 239,918 rooms, according to the January 2010 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report released last week.

Among the key markets in the region, Shanghai ended the month with the most rooms in the total active pipeline, with 13,762 rooms. Three other markets each reported more than 5,000 rooms in the total active pipeline: Bangkok (7,929 rooms), New Delhi (6,768 rooms) and Beijing (6,294 rooms).
