The Forest mall to open in Mong Kok in mid-2017

Retail outfit New World Development has partnered with Hong Kong’s Urban Renewal Authority to launch a new mall, The Forest, in one of the city’s major retail districts.

Located in Hong Kong’s iconic Sneaker Street, the three-storey mall will offer 50,000 square feet of retail space, incorporating greenery and modern architecture for a one of a kind urban-meets-nature shopping experience.

Named to reflect its role as natural hideaway in the busy city, The Forest reflects the “artisanal movement” being fostered by its owner and developer, New World Group.

With The Forest, New World is looking to create an “authentic Hong Kong lifestyle,” according to a press release.

“Passing through this invigorating space blends a journey in the woods with a walk through the bustling cityscape of Hong Kong,” said New World, in a press release.

“Guests can connect with nature and imagine our vision of sports and green living in a balanced lifestyle.”

Taking design cues from the cutting-edge architecture of Tokyo’s Daikanyama area, where narrow alleys lead into scenic greenery, The Forest also carries a sports-theme throughout, with a “focus on all things healthy and trendy,” continued the group.

Inside the centre, a giant tree forms part of the mall’s atrium, while a wall covered in plant life is designed to bring more nature indoors. The centre’s design also increases the amount of natural light indoors, emphasised by high ceilings and glass panels.

Founded in 1970, New World Group’s core business areas include property development, infrastructure and services, department stores and hotels. As of 30 June 2016, the total asset value of the Group amounted to HK$392.1 billion.

The Forest will open mid-2017 on Nelson Street in central Mong Kok.
